Independence Day Celebrations & Closures

The Parkwood Association office will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, for the Independence Day holiday and will resume normal business hours on Monday, July 6th. Durham County government offices will also be closed on the 3rd.

Here's a roundup of some Fourth of July celebrations in Durham and around the Triangle

Fireworks after the Durham Bulls home game on Saturday, July 4th.

The 36th annual Festival for the Eno happens on July 4th and 5th.

Fireworks, parades, music and food from Apex to Wake Forest and all points in between.

However you choose to celebrate, have a safe and fun July 4th.

Annual Bike Parade and Cookout June 27

Parkwood's almost famous annual bike parade will be on Saturday, June 27th, from 4-7pm at the ballfield. Decorating supplies will be available, and there will be a prize for the best decorated bike. There will also be food and games.

Volunteers needed to help with grilling, handing out bike decorating supplies, etc. Please contact the office if you'd like to help.

Beat the heat

Temperatures in Durham are soaring this week, with the 100-degree mark in the forecast for several days. Combined with high humidity, heat index values will be over 100 degrees. We have a heat advisory today, and probably will again tomorrow and Wednesday.

Stay hydrated, stay indoors in the AC if possible, stay out of the sun, make sure outdoor pets have plenty of shade and water, and be sure to check on your elderly or disabled neighbors.

If you haven't yet, this may be a good time to check out the Parkwood Swim Club, or some of the other public pools and spraygrounds in Durham.
